About The Position

Social Services is now accepting applications to be considered for an open position as a Full-Time Welfare Fraud Investigator. This position will be eligible for Clay County’s benefit package. Information on Clay County’s insurance benefits can be found here. Fringe-Benefit-Summary_2026

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree or two-years of college or technical school certification in Criminal Justice or related field AND 5-8 years in investigative experience OR Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university in Criminal Justice or related field AND 1-3 years in investigative experience.
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Successfully complete a background investigation
  • Clay County Application must be submitted for all County positions.

  • If you are an eligible military veteran and wish to claim Veteran’s Preference, you must present a legible photocopy of your DD214 form to the Office of Human Resources. All veterans who are certified will be considered for appointment.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts investigations of alleged or suspected violations of public assistance laws, rules and regulations.
  • Prepares welfare fraud cases to be submitted to the County Attorney’s Office for prosecution.
  • Investigates and settles fraudulent case situations administratively according to MN State Statutes and the Intentional Program Violation Process.
  • Maintain proper case records and effective case management systems.
  • Perform related administrative functions.
  • Other duties as assigned.
