About The Position

DCTS is seeking an industry professional and/or PA State Certified Welding teacher to teach Welding Technology in our high school program. Students are taught oxy-fuel gas cutting principles and practices, arc cutting principles and practices, and welding inspection and testing principles. Welding Technology students research careers in the welding field and learn how to weld in all positions. Further, they learn how to interpret blueprints and layout projects from cutting to tacking to full completion of projects. Students learn about precision cuts in steel plates using superheated gases and learn how steel is formed from a liquid to solid. Students also gain hands-on training in a variety of welding procedures including shielded metal arc welding (STICK), gas metal arc welding (MIG), flux cored arc welding (FCAW) and gas tungsten arc welding (TIG). In this program, students learn how to use the proper equipment for testing welds, destruction, and hardness testing. They gain experience in reading and understanding manuals and specification charts for the welding process. The students learn how to use grinders and chemical baths for surface cleaning, proper clamping techniques, and welding standards established by the American Welding Society. Candidates submitting applications will be required to present experience/working knowledge in the areas presented above. The job of CTE Teacher was established for the purpose/s of providing support to the instructional process by serving as a teacher with specific responsibility for supervising students within the classroom and other assigned areas; developing lesson plans and delivering group and individual student instruction within established curriculum guidelines; collaborating with other teachers, other professional staff, and administrators in addressing instructional and/or classroom issues; and responding to a wide range of inquiries from students’ parents or guardians regarding instructional program and student progress.

Requirements

  • Appropriate certificate as directed by the Pennsylvania Department of Education
  • Minimum four years of full-time, wage-earning work experience is required prior to employment and certification
  • Experience/working knowledge in oxy-fuel gas cutting principles and practices, arc cutting principles and practices, welding inspection and testing principles, blueprint interpretation, layout projects, shielded metal arc welding (STICK), gas metal arc welding (MIG), flux cored arc welding (FCAW), gas tungsten arc welding (TIG), weld testing equipment, destruction and hardness testing, reading and understanding manuals and specification charts for welding processes, using grinders and chemical baths for surface cleaning, proper clamping techniques, and American Welding Society standards.
