About The Position

The Great Basin College School of Industrial Technology and Workforce Development seeks a broadly trained Welding Technology expert to complement its existing program. The position will be based in Elko, Nevada. This position will be responsible for teaching all aspects of the program. This position has an anticipated start date of January 1st, 2027 The Welding Technology Instructor provides classroom, laboratory, and hands-on technical instruction to students preparing for careers in the welding field. The position combines technical instruction, student supervision, curriculum development, program support, industry engagement, and general faculty responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a certified Welding trade school is minimum
  • A minimum of five (5) years of field experience in welding and related maintenance, or in an equivalent field
  • AWS Certified Welding Inspector status is required, or is to be obtained before the beginning of the second year of instruction

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s degree or higher preferred
  • Teaching experience in a community college or technical field is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Teach all aspects of Welding Technology program
  • Teach and promote welding safety
  • Provide hands-on instruction and demonstrations using welding equipment and tools
  • Supervise students during laboratory activities and ensure safe work practices and proper use of tools and equipment.
  • Direct, guide, and evaluate student progress in achieving required course and program competencies.
  • Develop, review, and update curriculum, laboratory activities, assessments, and instructional materials to reflect current industry standards, technology, and workforce needs.
  • Prepare and maintain course syllabi, lesson plans, assignments, examinations, laboratory exercises, grading records, and other required instructional documentation.
  • Maintain an organized and safe welding laboratory environment and assist with identifying equipment, material, and supply needs.
  • Advise and mentor students regarding academic progress, technical skills, career preparation, and employment opportunities.
  • Work with mining companies, contractors, manufacturers, and other industry partners to ensure training remains relevant to workforce needs.
  • Participate in program recruitment, student outreach, advisory board activities, and other efforts supporting enrollment and program development.
  • Participate in departmental and college activities, Faculty Senate and college committees as assigned professional development, and other responsibilities expected of GBC faculty.
  • Maintain current knowledge of welding standards, safety standards, emerging technologies, and industry practices.
  • Perform administrative duties necessary to support the Welding Technology program.
  • Represent Great Basin College professionally when working with students, faculty, staff, industry partners, and the community.
  • Participate in advisory board meetings
  • Use online learning management to deliver course content and assessments
  • Develop and update curriculum to keep program current and innovative
  • Travel within the state as necessary, with or without accommodations under the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act)
  • Other duties as assigned
