About The Position

Wake Technical Community College is seeking a passionate and experienced Welding Faculty member to join our dynamic team. As a leader in skilled trades education, we are committed to creating a program that is industry-aligned. This position is responsible for teaching assigned classes and laboratories in day and/or evening according to course requirements, mentoring students in our state-of-the-art welding labs, contributing to curriculum development, and fostering an environment where students gain hands-on expertise, confidence, and the skills needed for long-term success in the field.

  • Knowledge of and facility with technology and software including computers and web-based resources such as BlackBoard
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Demonstrates resourcefulness, initiative, enthusiasm, and a sincere interest in helping students reach their maximum potential.
  • Computer skills using basic functions of MSWord, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook
  • Diploma in Welding, Metal Working, Metal Fabrication or related field in addition to appropriately related work experiences in the field such as a minimum of two years of industry welding experience, a combination of welding and related instructional experience, or professional licensure and certifications related to the teaching assignment.
  • OR Associate degree in Welding or related field and demonstrated competencies in the teaching discipline with at least one year of experience in the Welding industry or at least one year of combined welding and related instructional experience required
  • Must be able to pass Wake Tech's Welding qualification process

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree in Welding
  • AWSD1.1, ASMEIX, or API1104 Welder Performance Qualification (WPQ)
  • AWS Certified Welding Inspector Certification (CWI)
  • Five or more years of industry welding experience or at least five years of combined welding and related instructional experience

Responsibilities

  • Instructs students, utilizing industry-best practices and mentors them in a hands-on, engaging learning environment
  • Incorporates modern industry techniques and innovative teaching strategies to enhance student learning and engagement
  • Prepares thoroughly for each instructional hour, guides the class in an efficient and effective manner, and maintains accurate records of student work and attendance
  • Maintains a safe and orderly learning environment and promotes a culture of inclusion, ensuring all students feel welcome and supported
  • Grades and returns student work in a timely manner, counsels students regarding their grades and progress in the course, and maintains regular office hours
  • Assists with establishing goals and objectives for the course, selects text, and constructs a syllabus
  • Designs curriculum, schedule of instruction, and constructs classroom materials that support the goals of the course
  • Maintains communication with instructors from other divisions to keep courses up-to-date and appropriate
  • Uses assessment techniques to improve student learning outcomes and teaching methods
  • Stays abreast of most current teaching methods and technology in the classroom and attends professional development opportunities
  • Stays current with trends in welding technology, certifications, and workforce needs
  • Supports recruitment efforts and engages with industry partners to maintain program relevance and creates opportunities for student internships, apprenticeships, and job placement
  • Participates in graduation exercises and serves on college or department committees as needed
