About The Position

The Welding technician is responsible for performing precision welding and brazing operations on metal components across a broad range of materials from Steel, Aluminum, Stainless, Copper and brass. This role requires extensive knowledge of welding and brazing techniques and is proficient in metal fabrication. The Ideal candidate has experience working with GTAW and GMAW welding processes, Oxy-acetylene brazing torches, Band saws, grinding equipment such as right-angle grinders, die grinders and more. The candidate should possess strong mathematical skills, mechanical aptitude, and critical thinking skills.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or technical certification; associate degree in welding or metallurgy preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in welding MIG,TIG, aluminum and steel
  • Strong understanding of the correct welding filler materials to use with the appropriate base metal.
  • Strong fabrication skills, and the ability to create parts from raw materials in accordance to the provided blueprints.
  • Proficiency in reading weld symbols, blueprints, technical drawings, and work instructions.
  • Strong understanding of metallurgy and heat treatment principles.
  • Experience with cooling systems, refrigerant flow, and mechanical components is a plus.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and critical thinking skills (problem solving).
  • Experience with electrical wiring and component installation, terminating connections, and integrating electrical systems with HVAC and mechanical equipment
  • Comfortable standing, bending, and working in a shop environment for extended periods
  • Ability to lift 50lbs comfortably and work safely around heavy equipment

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with automated brazing systems.
  • Ability to train and mentor junior technicians.
  • Knowledge of cooling systems, refrigerant flow, and mechanical components used in HVAC and industrial cooling equipment
  • HVAC and refrigeration background, including experience with refrigeration piping systems, pressure testing and system assembly

Responsibilities

  • Performs welding on a variety of metals using the appropriate techniques and processes. (GTAW, GMAW)
  • Prepares all surfaces for welding to ensure weld joint integrity.
  • Will regularly be required to weld in a variety of positions ex: 1-4F, 1-4G etc. The welder will also be subjected to welding in awkward welding positions ex: standing, kneeling, lying down and overhead.
  • Perform brazing on various metals and alloys using appropriate techniques (oxyacetylene, Induction brazing).
  • Prepare joint surfaces and apply fluxes to ensure optimal joint integrity.
  • Ability to braze copper/refrigeration lines and ensure leak-free, properly sealed systems
  • Inspects all weld joints post weld and ensures weld integrity, strength and visual appearance are compliant with the drawings and work instructions.
  • Conduct positive pressure tests using compressed nitrogen and decay (negative pressure testing) via vacuum equipment.
  • Conducts visual inspections using the appropriate measuring devices such vernier calipers, micrometers, tape measurers, combination squares and fillet weld gages.
  • Maintains all Welding and fabrication related equipment, including but not limited to Welding machines, torches, saws, grinding equipment and more.
