The Aecon Fabrication Welding Robotics Technician will support the robotic welding activities at the Cambridge Ontario location. This role is responsible maintaining robotic welding and material handling cell(s). Staying at the forefront of welding technology is key to ensuring that Aecon welding activities maintain the high level of quality that is required in the nuclear industry. Additionally, ensuring that Aecon leverages the latest available technologies to remain competitive in the marketplace will provide further confidence and opportunities for future business development. The candidate will interface with the welding center of excellence which is a self-managed department which operates as a dedicated body within Aecon to be able to provide internal welding services to Aecon, as well as contract services to external customers. This is a night shift position.

Requirements

  • College or university degree in Engineering or related field (e.g., Mechanical, Materials, Mechatronics, Welding & Robotics)
  • Advanced welding knowledge and hands-on experience (mandatory)
  • 5–10 years of experience in welding, manufacturing, or materials science
  • Strong experience programming robotic, automated, or mechanized welding systems
  • Mandatory experience with FANUC robotics programming and operation
  • Ability to interpret, sketch, and communicate manufacturing concepts clearly
  • Solid understanding of value-added vs. non–value-added manufacturing operations
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word (intermediate to advanced)
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; strong teamwork and interpersonal abilities
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and troubleshooting capabilities; results-oriented and accountable
  • Detail-oriented with a positive, solution-focused attitude
  • Commitment to safety and continuous learning; passion for welding is an asset
  • Willingness to mentor, share knowledge, and support team development
  • Valid G driver’s license and access to a vehicle

Nice To Haves

  • Familiar with Keyence welding camera(s) and Smartray weld inspection equipment is an asset
  • Knowledge of ASME, CWB, and/or AWS welding codes considered an asset
  • Exposure to heavy welding equipment and tooling design/development is an asset
  • Hands-on experience with manufacturing tools, welding processes, and semi-automated machinery is an asset

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for Fanuc / robot programming and program modification of welding and material handling applications
  • Participate in Continuous Improvement projects and work with Engineering department to develop new welding techniques and process improvement
  • Troubleshoot robotic welding processes and resolve welding issues
  • Develop and maintain a database with records of changes and welding schedule
  • Develop program routines for new jobs
  • Change over jobs and setting up of weld tooling on automated equipment
  • Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on robots and automated welding machines in a timely manner
  • Responsible for making required modifications to robotic equipment to meet quality standards
  • Develop and document process parameters for direct arc stud welding and GMAW operations
  • Program and troubleshoot all weld controllers to ensure quality standards are met
  • Make appropriate modifications to welding equipment to ensure high level of running efficiency
  • Maintain safety standards of equipment and work area and perform all duties in a safe manner in accordance with the safety policies
  • Ensure that all duties and tasks are carried out in a safe and efficient manner
  • Will comply with Health, Safety, and Environmental policies and procedures
  • Other duties as assigned
