About The Position

The Welding Program Specialist is responsible for building, leading, and continuously improving the campus welding training and qualification program. This role serves as the campus subject-matter leader for welding training, welder testing, qualification records, weld quality expectations, and hands-on skills development. Every day at Hubbell is different and you’ll contribute in many ways. On any given day, you’ll make a difference by administering and documenting company welder tests, practical assessments, qualifications, and requalification activities in accordance with approved company requirements and applicable codes or customer specifications. You will evaluate candidate and employee welding capability and provide objective pass, development-needed, or not-yet-qualified results using established acceptance criteria. You will maintain accurate qualification records, test results, authorized processes, limitations, expiration or review requirements, and training history. You will ensure only appropriately trained, evaluated, and authorized employees perform welding work within the scope of their qualification. You will create a fair retest and remediation process for individuals who show potential but do not initially meet the required standard. You will partner with Quality and Engineering when acceptance criteria, procedure interpretation, external certification, or technical approval is required.

Requirements

  • Current Certified Welding Inspector credential from the American Welding Society, or equivalent credential approved by the company.
  • Demonstrated hands-on welding experience in a manufacturing or fabrication environment.
  • Strong knowledge of welding processes, weld discontinuities, visual inspection, weld symbols, drawings, specifications, and practical welder testing.
  • Ability to teach technical skills in plain language, demonstrate techniques, coach different experience levels, and make objective qualification decisions.
  • Strong documentation, organization, communication, follow-up, and cross-functional leadership skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience developing or delivering welding training, apprenticeship, certification, or qualification programs.
  • Experience with welding procedure specifications, procedure qualification records, welder performance qualification records, applicable welding codes, and internal authorization systems.
  • Experience in a union manufacturing environment and familiarity with robotic welding operations.
  • Experience with learning, quality, or manufacturing systems preferred.
