About The Position

The Tennessee College of Applied Technology Upper Cumberland is seeking a Part-Time Dual Enrollment Welding Instructor. This position involves teaching postsecondary and secondary students modern welding techniques, shop safety, job success, metallurgy, blueprint reading, welding symbols, fitting, and fabrication. The instructor will also establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and industry partners, and monitor, grade, and evaluate student progress using student records software. The role requires 33 hours per week, with average hours from 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and a starting pay of $25.00 per hour. Occasional modified evening schedules may be required.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a Welding training program at an accredited postsecondary institution
  • High School diploma or high school equivalent diploma
  • A minimum of (3) years of successful employment as a welder
  • Proficient in the use of general SMAW, GMAW, GTAW machines
  • Knowledge of all aspects of the welding industry including gas metal arc (MIG), tungsten inert gas (TIG), shielded metal arc (stick), oxyacetylene welding (gas), flux core welding, flame cutting, plasma arc cutting, brazing, and soldering
  • Proficient in measurement, layout, and blueprint reading
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective interpersonal working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and business and industry
  • Basic computer skills are a plus.
  • Sincere desire to teach as well as remain current in the welding profession
  • Willing to work on a modified evening schedule on occasion.

  • Associate degree and AWS certifications preferred
  • Welding Certifications preferred
