About The Position

The Welder is responsible for MIG, TIG, and Stick welding, along with hands-on machinery rigging, equipment movement, and related fabrication activities. The role involves supporting machinery moving work, including rigging, millwrighting, mechanical installation, and handling heavy equipment. Work is based in the Portsmouth, New Hampshire area and is scheduled Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM. This is physical, hands-on work that requires the use of arms and legs and whole-body movement, including crawling, climbing, lifting, balancing, stooping, occasional walking, and handling materials weighing up to 50 pounds. The work may take place in a non-temperature-controlled environment or outdoors in all types of weather, including over uneven ground or terrain. Welders must be able to stand for long periods and have good hand-eye coordination and attention to fine detail. Requirements

High school diploma or GED equivalent.
At least three years of welding experience.
At least three years of construction industry experience.
Ability to use precision measuring tools and equipment, including hand, power, and pneumatic tools.
Ability to handle materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
Ability to stand for long periods and perform physical activities including crawling, climbing, lifting, balancing, stooping, and occasional walking.
Good hand-eye coordination and attention to fine detail.
Willingness and ability to work in a non-temperature-controlled environment and/or outdoors in all types of weather, including over uneven ground or terrain.
Ability to work in a high-functioning team environment.

Responsibilities

Examine workpieces for defects and measure them with straightedges or templates to ensure conformance with specifications.
Fabricate, set up, and repair rigging, supporting structures, hoists, and pulling gear using hand and power tools.
Dismantle and store rigging equipment after use.
Operate vehicles and mechanized equipment, including forklifts and passenger vehicles.
Operate and control machinery and processes using control mechanisms or direct physical activity.
Read blueprints and use a tape measure, level, and square.
Select rigging gear, including cables, pulleys, and winches, based on load weights, sizes, facilities, and work schedules.
Control the movement of heavy equipment through narrow openings or confined spaces using chain falls, gin poles, gallows frames, and other equipment.
Tilt, dip, and turn suspended loads to maneuver around obstacles using multi-point suspension techniques.
Install ground rigging for yarding lines, attaching chokers to logs and then to the lines.
Align, level, and anchor machinery.
Manipulate rigging lines, hoists, and pulling gear to move or support materials such as heavy equipment, ships, or theatrical sets.
Attach pulleys and blocks to fixed overhead structures, such as beams, ceilings, and gin pole booms, using bolts and clamps.
Work with a safety-first awareness for oneself and everyone at the job site.
