About The Position

MasTec Civil is seeking a skilled Structural Welder in Mobile, Alabama, to fabricate and repair items for roadway, bridge, and transit projects. The Welder uses flame-cutting and hand-welding equipment to weld, cut, and braze metal pieces and products. The role requires completion of a formal apprenticeship or a successful in-company, three-year training program. A valid welding certification is preferred. The position may be subject to pre-employment screening, including a background check and drug testing.

Requirements

• Complete a formal apprenticeship or successfully complete an in-company, three-year training program.
• Have a thorough understanding of welding machines and tools, including their design, use, maintenance, and repair.
• Have a basic understanding of design techniques, principles, and tools used to produce technical plans, drawings, models, and blueprints.
• Be able to read and listen to assignments provided in a variety of forms.
• Have a basic understanding of mathematics as it relates to welding assignments.

Nice To Haves

• Possession of a valid welding certification.

Responsibilities

• Plan work-order procedures and gather the tools and materials needed based on job instructions and specifications.
• Repair and fabricate items and equipment using cutting, burning, and welding techniques and equipment.
• Monitor welding, burning, and fitting to prevent parts from overheating or being damaged by warping, distortion, expansion, or shrinkage.
• Prepare, assemble, and tack-weld parts and surfaces.
• Maintain, organize, and clean equipment and the work area.
• Notify a supervisor when faulty equipment or defective materials are discovered.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
