About The Position
Responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to: Set up a welding machine, reviewing and understanding material lists and parts on shop drawings, reading and understanding blueprints prior to starting a project, sourcing the materials to be used in the project, measuring and cutting materials to specifications, and welding materials using the correct materials to join the metals together. Checking finished work to make sure that it falls within the tolerances marked on the blueprints. The facility is not heated in winter nor cooled in summer, requiring the ability to work in the natural element of heat and cold. Physical demands include the ability to work scheduled shifts, work at heights of greater than 6 feet on a regular basis, work overtime when necessary/required and with short notice, work in all weather conditions as the job requires working inside and outside through the course of a single shift, and the ability to bend, stoop, sit, grasp with hands, feel texture with fingers, cling, walk, twist, stand, and work on concrete for up to twelve hours per day up to six (6) days per week. Candidates must have prior welding experience or welding training at an accredited school, be able to pass SCSG basic steel GMAW plate test per AWS D1.1 standards, be able to repeatedly make basic steel fillet welds on dissimilar material thickness, weld at an acceptable pace and quality standards, demonstrate the ability to work safely, work from a priority list, work with others or independently, and be organized and keep necessary documents and prints updated with any changes. Additional responsibilities include being dependable and on time, maintaining a clean work area, taking good care of equipment, working from a priority system, MIG welding items at a safe and productive pace, having working knowledge of welding and welding techniques, removing splatter and cleaning welds as necessary, adjusting welding machines correctly, utilizing cranes as needed for handling large items, consistently making quality welds on various materials, using small hand tools as necessary, following all safety procedures and guidelines, and following written and verbal instructions. The environment requires the ability to endure climate changes (hot and cold). Physical demands include the ability to lift 25lbs unassisted, bend, stoop, and climb, and work while standing on concrete for up to 12 hours a day. Required skills include the ability to read and write at a 3rd grade level, read a tape measure to 1/16 increments, pass basic math, fractions, power tools, SCSG basic steel GMAW plate test per AWS D1.1 standards, and a visual T-joint weld test.
