Wabash Welders perform a variety of tasks that vary by location and help manufacture carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminum products and subassemblies. They are an important part of the manufacturing process and are expected to produce high-quality work while meeting production standards. Weld qualification tests are required, and some product lines also require certification tests. Applicants who do not pass the initial weld test may qualify by attending Wabash’s in-house Weld School and demonstrating that they can pass the test after training. The role involves welding, reading engineering prints and specifications, performing basic preventive maintenance on welding equipment, and following safety procedures. Depending on the location and department, employees may work in tight spaces, at heights of 15–20 feet, and in different departments as assigned. Production-floor employees must wear required personal protective equipment. The work environment may involve fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, vibration, loud noise, high temperatures, and occasional exposure to outside elements at job sites. Employees regularly stand, walk, climb, sit, bend, kneel, stoop, and operate controls throughout the shift. Some employees work in small spaces and frequently lift or carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
