About The Position

The Welder fabricates, modifies, and repairs equipment or parts used in heavy highway construction. The role involves safely using welding and other trade tools, working from measurements and blueprints, and assembling, maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing construction equipment and metal components.

Requirements

• Over one year of experience to become familiar with the accurate use of a variety of welding techniques.
• Knowledge of tools and welding methods, including brazing, soldering, electrical, gas, and arc welding.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and manuals.
• Ability to understand and follow directions.
• Ability to prioritize, pay attention to detail, take initiative, and solve problems.
• Ability to perform basic math functions and read multiple styles of measuring devices.

Responsibilities

• Comply with safety rules to maintain a safe and orderly work environment.
• Perform basic math and read multiple styles of measuring devices.
• Use the tools needed to complete assigned tasks.
• Cut individual components and position them correctly using multiple leveling devices.
• Assemble, disassemble, set up, diagnose, adjust, and maintain construction equipment.
• Repair parts and steel, and modify, design, lay out, or fabricate a variety of metal work.
• Cut, fit, and weld metal using gas and electric welding equipment; perform skilled brazing and soldering.
• Perform minor repair and maintenance on a variety of heavy construction equipment.
