About The Position

Welders at Starbase, Texas, build, maintain, and upgrade structural, fluid, and launch pad systems supporting Starship launch campaigns. The role works with a team of fabricators to build and weld large assemblies, structural stands, tubing, piping, and launch pad infrastructure at SpaceX’s South Texas facility. The welder completes construction, repair, and upgrade work using multiple welding processes and materials, fabricates components to specified dimensions, and works with a lead welder to determine appropriate procedures and materials. The position also involves interpreting engineering drawings, inspecting welds when properly trained, maintaining required licenses or permits, and adapting to changing program needs. The role typically works Monday through Friday, 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., with overtime and weekend availability required as operational needs vary. Work is performed outdoors in changing weather and in environments with fumes, odors, and noise. The position involves significant physical activity and may require work at heights up to 500 feet, in confined spaces, and around heavy equipment and machinery.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalency certificate.
  • At least 2 years of hands-on experience with one or more of SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, or FCAW, including gas-shielded FCAW (FCAW-G); experience from a college or vocational welding program qualifies.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Must be available for overtime and weekends as site operational needs require.
  • Must be capable of safely working at heights up to 500 feet, in confined spaces, operating heavy equipment and machinery, and performing the physical requirements listed in the posting.
  • Must meet the stated U.S. citizenship, nationality, permanent residency, refugee, asylee, or export-authorization eligibility requirement under ITAR.
  • Ability to work in temperatures over 80 degrees for six or more hours per day.
  • Physical activity includes standing, sitting, walking, overhead reaching, and kneeling or crouching for up to 10 hours per day; climbing for up to 6 hours per day; upper-body twisting for up to 6 hours per day; pushing or pulling up to 75 pounds unassisted for 1–2 hours per day; and lifting or carrying up to 50 pounds unassisted for 1–2 hours per day.

Nice To Haves

  • At least 5 years of professional FCAW welding experience with stainless steel and/or carbon steel.
  • Previous welding qualifications under one or more of AWS D1.1, AWS D1.2, AWS D1.6, AWS D17.1, or ASME Section IX.
  • High proficiency in tube and pipe cutting, grinding, and fabrication.
  • Knowledge of DC GTAW welding techniques and engineering requirements.
  • Knowledge of standard welding-trade tools, materials, motions, and practices.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and effective safety precautions of the trade.
  • Knowledge of arc-air procedures and equipment.
