The Welder performs welding on aircraft and ground support equipment while following Welding Procedures Specifications (WPS). This role involves fusion welding on parts and components according to engineering drawings and work orders, requiring the ability to read and understand these documents without direct supervision. The welder will work with a variety of materials, select appropriate filler materials and shielding gases, and produce flight-critical welds. Responsibilities also include determining welding sequences to minimize warping, fabricating weld holding fixtures, performing pre-heat and post-weld stress relief operations, and maintaining weld records. The incumbent may also act as a Qualified Weld Inspector and train or re-certify other welders.
