About The Position

The Welder will produce welded assemblies for commercial stainless steel/hollow metal doors and frames using MIG (GMAW), TIG (GTAW), LASER and/or other specified welding processes. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with stainless steel, understands heat control to prevent warpage, can interpret shop prints and weld symbols, and works to tight tolerances and established weld procedures.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • 2+ years of welding experience with stainless steel in a manufacturing environment; experience with commercial doors/frames or hollow metal products strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency in MIG (GMAW) and/or TIG (GTAW), LASER welding on stainless steel; experience with pulse short-circuit and spray transfer modes a plus.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, weld symbols and dimensional drawings.
  • Familiarity with welding procedure specifications (WPS), filler metals for stainless, shielding gases, and methods to control distortion.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality welds with good fit and finish.
  • Ability to pass shop weld tests and quality inspections.
  • Basic math skills and the ability to use measuring tools (tape, calipers, squares, levels).
  • Good teamwork and communication skills.

  • Set up, operate and maintain welding equipment (MIG/GMAW, TIG/GTAW, LASER, wire feeders, gas systems) per SOP and welding procedure specifications.
  • Perform fit-up, tack welding and final welds on stainless steel/hollow metal doors, frames and related assemblies in flat, vertical, horizontal and overhead positions.
  • Weld various joints (butt, fillet, plug/slot) to required strength and appearance standards; control heat input to minimize distortion.
  • Interpret drawings, blueprints and weld symbols; perform measurements and verify tolerances during assembly.
  • Inspect welds visually and perform basic NDT tasks as required (e.g., dye-penetrant, visual acceptance criteria) or document for QA inspection.
  • Clean, grind and finish welds to meet commercial appearance and corrosion-resistance requirements; prepare stainless surfaces for passivation/pickling as needed.
  • Adhere to and follow welding procedure qualifications (WPS), work instructions and company quality standards.
  • Monitor production processes, record output and quality checks, and verify completed operations before moving assemblies to the next cell.
  • Maintain a clean, organized and safe workstation; follow PPE and safety protocols (respirators, welding helmets, gloves, ventilation).
