About The Position

The Welder is responsible for quality of the welds on all truss and small component parts for Britespan’s buildings. This job description and performance standard document has been prepared as a guide to ensure better communications and understanding. All responsibilities, however, have not been included, nor could they be. Your Manager may from time to time ask you to perform other related duties not specifically included in the description. Likewise, this description will be revised when required to meet current business needs.

Requirements

  • Completion of Secondary Education or Equivalent
  • A valid Driver’s License
  • Knowledge of hand/power tools
  • Able to operate a mig welder
  • Able to operate equipment such as hand grinder, forklifts and hand tools
  • Able to read and interpret part drawings and welding process specifications
  • Able to inspect parts for quality assurance
  • Able to perform basic math problems
  • Self-starter & Team Player
  • Excellent time management & attention to detail
  • Physical strength is required for manual material handling
  • Excellent English Communication skills (oral and written)
  • Interpersonal skills
  • Follow the guidelines outlined in the Occupational Health and Safety Act
  • Encourage fellow employees to work safely and to report hazardous or unsafe conditions immediately to their Team Leaders
  • Follow all company policies and procedures including wearing all required PPE

Nice To Haves

  • CWB Certified Welder (may be obtained through employment)
  • A Forklift Certificate (may be obtained through employment)
  • 1 year of related experience as a CWB Certified welder in a manufacturing environment (asset)
  • Experience in production processes (asset)

Responsibilities

  • Capable of setting up workstation and all associated tools
  • Operate manual or semi-automatic welding equipment
  • Tack and welding procedures
  • Have the ability to inspect welds to maintain quality and reduce rework
  • Read and interpret drawings or welding process specifications
  • Continuous learner within and beyond their own work area
  • Able to stand for long periods of time and be able to do heavy lifting
  • Able to perform basic math problems
  • Able to work with minimum supervision
  • Able to follow all safety procedures and wear all PPE apparel required for the job
  • Responsible for maintaining the integrity of programs, fixtures, and tooling
  • Ability to operate other equipment in the weld shop such as band saw, iron worker, forklifts and hand tools
  • Other duties as assigned
