About The Position

The Welder is responsible for the performance of various duties in a safe and productive manner, including assisting other maintenance welders, performing layout and fabrication for equipment upkeep and improvement, and welding using gas or arc welding. The role requires the ability to cut using a cutting torch or air arc, perform tasks in various positions, and read blueprints or instructions. The Welder will also maintain a clean work environment, be knowledgeable of special tools, assist production with problem-solving, suggest improvements, advise on safety decisions, perform repairs, and create work orders. This position requires working outdoors approximately 80% of the time, lifting up to 65 lbs occasionally, and walking on uneven terrain daily. The role also involves bending, stooping, and crawling continuously to access machines. Teamwork, open communication, self-direction, and the ability to take a leadership role are essential. The Welder must be willing to stop work for safety concerns, abide by safety practices, and rotate work assignments for training. Respirator use is required, and the ability to work alone is necessary.

Requirements

  • Must have high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must have experience in welding maintenance and fabrication, preference to welding in the mining and/or heavy equipment field.
  • Ability to weld using gas or arc welding.
  • Ability to cut using a cutting torch or air arc.
  • Ability to perform welding and cutting tasks in flat, horizontal, vertical or overhead positions.
  • Ability to read prints or instructions.
  • Knowledge of the proper use of special tools required to perform welding tasks.
  • Ability to lift 65 lbs. on an occasional basis.
  • Ability to walk up and down slopes and uneven ground daily.
  • Ability to bend and stoop, crawl on a continuous basis (access machines as needed).
  • Work as a team member and communicate openly with others.
  • Self-directed and able to take leadership role on many projects, including but not limited to contractor management.
  • Willing to stop work for safety concerns and always abide by safety best practices, policies and procedures.
  • Respirator use is required.
  • Ability to work alone.

Nice To Haves

  • Welding certification is preferred, but not mandatory.
  • Preference to welding in the mining and/or heavy equipment field.

Responsibilities

  • Assist other maintenance welders and work closely with supervisors to develop and implement a strong and effective maintenance welding program.
  • Perform layout and fabrication for the upkeep and improvement of existing equipment both fixed and mobile.
  • Must be able to weld using gas or arc welding and to cut using a cutting torch or air arc.
  • Must be able to perform these tasks in flat, horizontal, vertical or overhead position.
  • Must be able to read the prints or instructions of supervisors or engineering.
  • Maintain a clean and citation-free mine site environment.
  • Be knowledgeable of the proper use of special tools required to perform welding tasks.
  • Assist production with solving problems affecting the normal operation of equipment, both fixed and mobile.
  • Inform supervision of any improvements that might increase production and/or lower costs.
  • Advise of safety decision, etc; can it be used safely, give input.
  • Perform partial and major repairs as required to maximize production and maintain a safe environment.
  • Perform all tasks in a consistently safe and professional manner.
  • Instruct others in these safety techniques.
  • Create work orders and job requests when necessary.
