About The Position

LSI Industries, headquartered in Cincinnati, is a leader in creating advanced lighting, graphics, and display solutions. Their American-made products help businesses stand out in competitive markets. EMI, a division of LSI Industries, is seeking a 2nd Shift Welder to join their team in Cranston, RI. This role involves supporting the EMI team in manufacturing high-quality products.

Requirements

  • Previous experience with Tig weld procedures is required.
  • Must be able to read squares and measuring tapes.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Lifts frequently (50% of normal workday) material weighing 5 – 25 lbs. occasionally lifts (15% of normal workday) material weighing 25 – 60 lbs. lifting generally from floor level to waist level.
  • Must reach, stoop, kneel and crouch.
  • Be able to read part numbers and directions provided on a worksheet.
  • Works within a team cell environment.
  • Must be reliable and willing to work overtime when required.
  • Attention to Detail: Welders need to make clean lines and cuts when welding. Paying attention to the job at hand is necessary.
  • Dexterity: TIG welders work with their hands and need to be steady during the welding process.
  • Strength: TIG welders often need to lift or hold heavy pieces of metal in place while welding.
  • Stamina: TIG welders can expect long hours on their feet, often in hot conditions.
  • Technical Skills: Welding equipment requires technical knowhow, as does reading blueprints and understanding how the final product should look.
  • Troubleshooting Skills: Welders should see flaws in welds or structural imperfections in the metal.
  • Good Vision: Keeping a steady eye on the weld as it takes form requires good vision.
  • Prior welding Experience: 2 years

Nice To Haves

  • A welding certification or on job experience is strongly recommended.
  • Previous experience with handheld grinders, drills, hammer, plasma cutting torch, blaster equipment and drill press is strongly desired.
  • Previous application of lean manufacturing and structured problem-solving tools is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews work orders and parts from Department Supervisor and Lead Person.
  • Works from blueprints and performs weld techniques per required material and weldment.
  • Sets-up weld equipment per material type listed on work order.
  • Welds part per work order and blueprints.
  • Positions and clamps together components of fabricated metal products preparatory to welding.
  • Uses basic power hand tools and grinders to clean up weld work (e.g., de-burring, clean weld splatter).
  • Completes the Weld Quality Check list as required.
  • Supports the company’s lean initiatives and assists in Lean projects as required.
  • Follows all safety practices and rules.
  • Maintains clean and safe working environment in line with company policies.
  • Supports other departments or completes other duties, as necessary.
