About The Position

The Welder will provide hands-on fabrication, repair, and structural support for the Fleet team. Working both alongside teammates and, often independently, this role is crucial in ensuring all welding and metal fabrication work is completed safely, on time, within specifications, and to Wilmot’s quality standards.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED required
  • 1–3 years of welding and metal fabrication experience required
  • Experience with MIG, TIG, and Stick welding required
  • Ability to lift/move 50 lbs.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
  • Team-oriented with a positive “can-do” attitude
  • Good communication skills to interact with internal teams
  • Ability to take direction, manage timelines and deadlines, and troubleshoot issues as needed
  • Strong work ethic, including reliability, honesty, and accountability

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings preferred
  • Modular construction or trailer/container experience preferred
  • Welding certification (AWS or equivalent) preferred
  • Must be able to work independently in a fast-paced environment while staying on task

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to Wilmot’s safety protocols, including proper use of PPE and safe operation of welding equipment; report any equipment malfunctions or safety concerns within the yard
  • Perform welding and metal fabrication on mobile trailers and storage containers, including structural steel repair, modifications, and reinforcements
  • Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and work orders to complete welding tasks accurately
  • Operate welding equipment (MIG, TIG, Stick) and related tools safely and efficiently
  • Cut, fit, and assemble metal components using appropriate tools and techniques
  • Inspect completed welds to ensure structural integrity and compliance with specifications and quality standards
  • Perform grinding, torch cutting, and finishing work as needed to complete projects
  • Assist with structural repairs and modifications to ensure units are ready for delivery and meet Wilmot’s quality standards
  • Provide backup support for inspections of returned leased buildings to determine repair scope of work
  • Maintain welding equipment and ensure proper storage and organization of tools and materials
  • Maintain the 5S methodology (Sort, Set in order, Shine, Standardize, and Sustain) in the workspace to enhance efficiency and safety
  • Report any deficiencies of workspace 5S principles and work with the Production Manager to make necessary adjustments
  • Attend and participate in safety meetings and training sessions
  • Communicate effectively with coworkers, supervisors, and other departments to ensure smooth operations
  • Provide feedback and suggestions for process improvements to optimize efficiency and safety
