About The Position

The Welder B is responsible for efficiently performing a variety of high-quality welding operations in a production environment. This incumbent will also make necessary adjustments to ensure proper blueprint specifications are met as well as performing minor maintenance on welding equipment. The incumbent will also have the opportunity to operate material handling equipment such as cranes, pallet jacks, forklifts, and conveyors.

Requirements

  • 1-3 years of welding experience.
  • Pass the level B welding capability test conducted on site – welding demonstration test as well as written test.
  • Ability read blueprints.
  • Ability to read, write, and understand English in order to complete necessary paperwork. Able to understand and follow verbal/written instructions.
  • 1 year of hands-on welding experience in a professional environment or 3 years of non-professional welding experience (recreational activity, volunteer work, etc.).
  • Attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy while working in a fast-paced environment with multiple deadlines.
  • Passion and integrity with the drive to excel and deliver exceptional results
  • High awareness of safety at all times.
  • Reads AWS symbol charts
  • Must be able to read, write, and understand English in order to complete necessary paperwork requirements. Must be able to understand and follow verbal/written instructions
  • Must be capable of correct interpretation and utilization of engineering drawings, both in imperial and metric measure.
  • Do simple math (add, subtract, divide and multiply both whole numbers and fractions)
  • Use a handheld calculator
  • Use a computer to enter production data and perform time keeping functions
  • Capable of successfully completing required structured training classes
  • Blueprint/design reading skills will be used to determine part dimensions and tolerances which may be indicated in both imperial and metric measurements
  • Operates welding equipment and makes necessary adjustments to insure proper blueprint specifications
  • Operates grinding and burning equipment
  • Ability to weld out of position on all materials
  • Production of any weld piece needed within the unit
  • Precision measuring equipment (including calipers, micrometers, inclinometers, various types of dial gages, plug gages, thread gages and snap gages) will be used to check parts
  • Identification of material discrepancies with gauges and visual inspections.
  • Ability of welding prototype parts and new product designs
  • Inventory form and inspection record processing
  • Ability to assist with the set-up of any production job
  • Proper inspection of parts and materials
  • Ability to carry out minor maintenance operations
  • Accountability of unique safety considerations

Nice To Haves

  • At least 6 months of Valmont or similar shop welding experience
  • Welding and/or Quality certification

Responsibilities

  • Operate automated welding equipment
  • Reads and makes necessary adjustments to insure proper blueprint specifications
  • Operates grinding and burning equipment
  • Accurately use measuring devices such as a tape measure
  • Performs minor welding machine maintenance (i.e. tips, liners, gas cups, drive rolls)
  • Uses labor reporting system, routing shop forms, fill out move tags, reads and utilizes blueprints
  • Applies adjustments to welding machinery to prescribed settings, operates production tooling and fixtures as well as material
  • Provides accurate accounting of labor, number of parts produced and provides all necessary quality checks
  • Participates and leads various team functions and projects adapting to everyday problems in a cooperative manner
  • Works with elements of lean production researching ideas for continuous improvement with both individual cells and the total unit
  • Collaborates with management and demonstrates effective, positive and proper communication
  • Operates material handling equipment such as cranes, pallet jacks, forklifts, and conveyors
  • Utilizes all safety devices and wear all mandatory personal protective safety equipment
  • Other duties as assigned
