This position is responsible for understanding welding procedures and parameters, comprehending and utilizing blueprints, sketches, drawings, and technical manuals, and gouging. The welder will weld steel plates and pipes in the repair and/or construction of marine vessels, industrial components, and associated equipment. They will use various types of welding equipment for different types of metal, welding components in a flat, vertical, or overhead position. Responsibilities also include performing related tasks such as cutting and grinding, repairing broken or cracked parts, filling holes, and increasing the size of metal parts. Welds will be performed using gas welding, brazing, arc welding, wire fed welding, or TIG welding processes. Highly skilled welders may work with a wide variety of materials such as titanium, aluminum, or exotic metals in addition to steel. The role involves selecting and setting up welding equipment, executing planned welds, and examining welds to ensure they meet standards or specifications.
