About The Position

As a seasonal Welder with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT), you will have the opportunity to work with a wide range of equipment that keeps county operations in motion. In this role, you will apply your welding skills to repair, rebuild, and strengthen important machinery. Your work will support winter operations, roadway maintenance, and emergency response efforts. This position focuses on welding, fabrication, and mechanical repair tasks that keep county equipment safe and operational for year-round use. The role includes working with various metals, equipment types, and tools to support maintenance activities and fleet reliability.

Requirements

• Three years of experience in the operation and use of welding equipment, materials, and related shop equipment to repair, maintain, or fabricate parts, equipment, or structures
• Completion of a three-year, high school Vo-Tech training program in welding and eighteen months of experience in the operation and use of welding equipment, materials, and related shop equipment to repair, maintain, or fabricate parts, equipment, or structures
• Completion of an approved welder apprentice program
• A welding certificate D1.1 from the American Welding Society
• An equivalent combination of experience and training
• Must be able to perform essential job functions

Responsibilities

• Perform welding, brazing, soldering, cutting, and repair work on ferrous and non-ferrous metals
• Make repairs to winter maintenance equipment such as plow frames, blades, and spreaders
• Fabricate replacement parts or new components to modify or restore equipment
• Operate power tools, air tools, and metalworking equipment safely and effectively
• Operate forklifts, trucks, and other motorized equipment during welding and fabrication tasks
• Follow environmental protection requirements and support Strategic Environmental Management Program objectives
