About The Position

This role is responsible for reading and interpreting basic drawings and weld symbols, passing Textron’s aluminum MIG (GMAW) weld test procedure, and performing as a productive working team member that meets daily goals set by the supervisor. The position involves MIG welding of aluminum materials in all positions, including working from standing, sitting, lying, and kneeling positions, with some work requiring mirror welding. Responsibilities include the safe use of power tools, operating cranes and forklifts, assisting supervisors with department equipment maintenance, and potentially instructing and mentoring less-skilled welders. The role requires working with a sense of urgency, efficiency, and productive output, while maintaining safe work practices and adhering to safety policies and procedures. Ensuring correct construction procedures are followed, maintaining general housekeeping, and monitoring the working environment for compliance with quality, safety, environmental, and health regulations are also key duties. The welder must be able to weld fillets for material thicknesses 4mm-10mm, weld frame wraps and terminations, weld T-Bar wraps and terminations, weld into corners/vertical intersections, evaluate and correct basic weld pick up with minimal supervision, weld groove/butt joints with satisfactory radiographic testing (NDT), and back step and sequence weld based upon provided information and/or good welding practices. Ability to work shifts or overtime as required and flexibility are essential.

Requirements

1-3 years of related welding experience
Ability to pass Textron’s aluminum MIG (GMAW) and/or TIG (GTAW) weld test procedure
Ability to successfully complete onboarding procedures in preparation to pass aluminum weld qualification test requirements to meet contract requirements for welding on the product
Must have high school diploma, GED or equivalent certificate, or bronze level (or higher) for ACT WorkKeys Certification

Responsibilities

Use of power tools (gougers, circular saws, grinders) in a safe, compliant manner
Operate cranes and forklifts
Assist supervisor to maintain control of department equipment and its maintenance
May instruct and mentor less-skilled welders, as assigned
Works with a sense of urgency, efficiency and productive out put
Maintains safe work practices and adheres to safety policies and procedures
Ensure correct construction procedures are adhered to
Ability to work shifts or overtime as required, must be flexible
Maintain general housekeeping, keep materials and equipment stowed in an orderly manner
Monitors working environment for compliance with quality, safety, environmental and health regulations and report deficiencies to supervisor
Demonstrated ability to weld fillets for material thicknesses 4mm- 10mm
Demonstrated ability to weld frame wraps and terminations with minimal blending required
Demonstrated ability to weld T-Bar wraps and terminations with minimal blending required
Demonstrated ability to weld into corners / vertical intersections with minimal blending required
Demonstrated ability to evaluate and correct basic weld pick up, with minimal supervision
Demonstrated ability to weld groove/butt joints with satisfactory radiographic testing (NDT)
Demonstrated ability to back step and sequence weld based upon provided information and/or good welding practices
