About The Position

The Welder position is primarily focused on Welding for our cable tray department. The Welder will direct and assist Assembler II’s with assembling ladders as well as welding the cable tray ladders and fittings. In this function, you will perform simple repetitive tasks and assembly of parts and components, use bolts, screws, hand tools, clips and other fastening devices, operate a welding unit, perform minor adjustments, and weld both aluminum and steel. You will work under close supervision and may work from models, samples, or engineering drawings. Additionally, you will remove excess weld, slag, spatter, and rough spots from workpieces using grinders, brushes, chisels, or scrapers. You will also support all facility Continuous Improvement and LEAN initiatives including maintaining 5-S, tracking and sustaining visual management tools, and encouraging participation in Kaizen improvements.

Requirements

  • Experience accurately measuring components and products utilizing tape measures & calipers
  • Experience reading engineering drawings
  • A minimum of 1 year welding experience in a manufacturing environment (MIG/TIG)
  • Experience adjusting and troubleshooting welding equipment
  • Experience identifying defects and measure workpiece to ensure conformance
  • Able to stand on feet continuously during working shift
  • Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment as required by company policy and procedure

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience with manufacturing fabrication.
  • Ability to weld aluminum and steel.
  • Experience with high volume, fast paced welding.

Responsibilities

  • Support all facility Continuous Improvement and LEAN initiatives including, but not limited to: Maintain 5-S (sort, set in order, shine, standardize, sustain) throughout shop floor and office areas
  • Track and sustain all visual management tools such as, but not limited to: layered audits, Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) boards, and any additional LEAN tools that are deemed necessary to provide direction, goals and status to the shop floor
  • Encourage, support, and actively participate in Kaizen improvements and events throughout the facility, department, and area of responsibility
