About The Position

The Welder performs gas and arc welding and operates spot-welding equipment. The role involves welding and finishing metals, soldering when required, reading shop assembly drawings, and supporting assembly work. The welder may work in other areas as needed and may assist with training new personnel in safe and efficient work practices. The position is based in New Albany, Mississippi, reports to the Department Supervisor, and has no direct reports. It is full-time, non-exempt, with a Monday–Thursday schedule from 5:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and overtime as required on Fridays.

Requirements

• Welding Certificate.
• Ability to perform gas, arc, and spot welding on stainless steel, aluminum, steel, and coated steel.
• Ability to read and interpret shop assembly drawings.
• Ability to accurately read a metal measuring tape and square.
• Ability to use hand and power tools.
• Ability to maintain a clean, safe, organized work area and report unsafe equipment or conditions.

Responsibilities

• Perform gas, arc, and spot welding on stainless steel, aluminum, steel, and coated steel.
• Operate spot-welding equipment and, when required, set up and adjust rocker arm and pinch gun spot welders for subassembly or assembly of shells or liners.
• Perform more difficult welding tasks as required.
• Finish metals and perform soldering when required.
• Maintain general knowledge of assembly and welding performed in the department.
• Work in other areas as required.
• Assist the Group Leader with training new personnel in the safe and efficient performance of their duties, as required.
• Read and interpret shop assembly drawings.
• Detect defects and report them to the Group Leader or Supervisor.
• Comply with company policies and safety regulations.
• Use hand and power tools.
• Accurately read a metal measuring tape and square.
• Accurately record job time on time tickets.
• Maintain housekeeping and a clean, safe, organized work area.
• Report unsafe equipment or conditions to the Supervisor.
