About The Position

This role involves performing welding tasks on ship components such as hulls, decks, bulkheads, frames, and foundations. The welder will prepare work surfaces, conduct weld fit-up and tacking, and work in various positions, including overhead, vertical, and flat welding, often in tight or elevated spaces. The position requires adherence to all shipyard safety policies, including the proper use of PPE, fire prevention, and confined space protocols. Collaboration with other trades and a commitment to HSE results are essential. Welding performance is subject to successfully passing all NDT requirements as set forth by classification society.

  • Read, interpret, and follow blueprints and sketches.
  • Efficiently and safely perform welding tasks using various welding processes and equipment.
  • Properly use weld measurement tools and gauges.
  • Thorough knowledge of various metals characteristics and qualities including the correct welding processes required and the effects of welding on the material.
  • Ability to inspect completed welds for conformance to specifications and know how to correct defects when necessary.
  • Will be required to work aloft (on scaffold or on manlifts) and in confined spaces.
  • Complete carbon steel, aluminum, and stainless steel fillet and butt weld certifications using the SMAW (Stick), GMAW (MIG), FCAW (Flux Core), and GMAW-P process (multi-pass) in 3G and 4G positions.
