About The Position

Welds together metal components of products such as metal appliance parts. This role involves obtaining specified gage wire, setting TIG welders to proper temperatures, and manually guiding electrodes or guns along weld lines to achieve specified fusion and bead depth. The welder will perform welding in a vertical position, examine welds for quality, clean weld joints, and repair broken or cracked parts. Responsibilities also include filling metal part corners to customer specifications and adhering to all safety and quality policies.

Requirements

  • One year certificate from college or technical school in welding field; or six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Candidate MUST HAVE prior TIG welding experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to speak effectively before employees or supervisors of organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Regularly required to stand and use hands to finger, handle, or feel.
  • Frequently required to reach with hands and arms.
  • Occasionally required to walk; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear.
  • Must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision and ability to adjust focus.

Responsibilities

  • Obtains specified gage wire and sets TIG welder to proper temperature based on type and gauge of metal being welded.
  • Manually guides electrode or gun along weld line, maintaining length of arc and speed of movement to form specified depth of fusion and bead, as judged from color of metal, sound of weld, and size of molten puddle.
  • Welds in vertical position.
  • Examines weld for bead size and other specifications.
  • Cleans weld joint or workpiece.
  • Repairs broken or cracked parts and fills holes.
  • Chips off excess weld, slag, and spatter.
  • Positions and clamps workpieces together or assembles them in jig or fixture.
  • Fills metal part corners to customer specifications.
  • Follows all safety and quality policies and procedures.
