Hull Welder Apprentices will complete a 6,000 hr program designed to give them maximum exposure to many different welding processes used to weld hull systems aboard naval vessels. The apprentice will receive special training in various areas to learn fundamental skills and techniques. The apprentice will attend a hull welding pre-training and certification course during the first several weeks of employment where they will receive important information and become certified with the U.S. Navy in order to perform their jobs. During the 2 yr program, the apprentices will learn how to weld structure in various positions using the SMAW and FCAW processes as well as other methods. Apprentices receive On-The-Job training through a series of rotations in weld shops,build area, integrate area and waterfront area. Candidates must pass a series of practical welding assignments on various base materials in order to retain the position
