Joiner Apprentices will complete a 8,000 hr program designed to given them maximum exposure to many different skills aboard naval vessels. Joiner workers in the marine environment are responsible for fabrication and installation of joiner bulkheads, foundation and other ship board furniture fixtures. Joiners also are responsible for working with thin gauges of steel, aluminum or stainless material. They also fabricate and install bins, racks, lockers, tabletops, sinks, shelves, furring and sheathing with a high degree of craftsmanship. Joiner are responsible for interpreting marine blue prints and using a variety of machine tools including shears, brakes, presses, rollers, drills, saws, spot welders and grinders.
