About The Position

The Welder operates and maintains the machines that fabricate and repair metal structures, equipment and machinery. This is a temp-to-full-time position. Key performance objectives include safety, flexibility in completing non-welding tasks, quality control, machine preparation and maintenance, and welding and fabricating stainless steel, aluminum, and cold roll steel. Ten percent of time is spent on ancillary responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Commits to plant safety and adheres to all health and safety protocol and procedures.
  • Always wears Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required for area and job, including safety glasses, gloves, welding helmet, and steel toed shoes.
  • Safely uses equipment and machines and encourage others to operate safely too.
  • Keeps an eye out for potentially unsafe conditions, informs Supervisor of issues, and fixes safety issues where possible.
  • Flexes to other job tasks on the production floor when instructed by supervisor to meet increase in work demand or absence of personnel; may include assembling, packing, paint coating, pemming, robot cell operating, and occasionally laser operating.
  • Inspects, tests, and measures finished product (using calipers, squares, protractors, and tape measures), comparing to blueprint, to discover any flaws, confirm proper tolerance of dimensions and angles, and ensure consistency.
  • Checks form and fit of parts by aligning finished product.
  • Reads and reviews samples, blueprints, mechanical drawing and diagrams, and the job sheet to plan steps of the job, understand customer specifications, identify machines and materials needed, where parts go once completed, and allot proper time to complete job.
  • Sets up machine by cleaning, calibrating, selecting correct tooling, and programing computer commands to run a production cycle for fabrication of many parts.
  • Prepares surfaces for welding and painting, including angle grinding, sanding, and buffing based on understanding of material qualities.
  • Cuts material and aligns components using calipers, rulers, and clamp pieces to prepare for welding.
  • Identifies issues, makes repairs, and follows any maintenance schedules to keep machines in top working condition.
  • Routinely maintains machines and equipment by greasing, changing fluid, cleaning, and calibrating.
  • Uses MIG and TIG welding techniques to weld stainless steel, aluminum, and cold roll steel at widths of 0.03 to 0.025 inches.
  • Welds components in vertical, horizontal, and overhead positions using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment.
  • Feeds raw material into robot welder. Monitors robot as it executes job and adjusts speed or feed to resolve any issues.
  • Repairs products by welding pieces and filling gaps or holes with appropriate material when instructed by supervisor.
  • Completes job within time specified on job sheet, takes finished and inspected parts to the next operation, and recycles scrap.
  • Utilizes ERP system to clock in and out for the workday and in and out of jobs.
  • Enters job related information into the ERP system with attention to detail. Information includes issuing of materials, number of completed and scraped parts, partial or closed job, notes on any issues, and general comments.
