About The Position

This position involves MIG welding on thin metals of varying compositions. The welder will be responsible for reading and understanding blueprints, operating various hand and power tools, selecting appropriate welding materials, inspecting welds, and maintaining company weld certifications. The role also includes operating machinery during welding downtime, planning and interpreting drawings and specifications, producing and inspecting parts to meet quality standards, using precision measuring instruments, verifying initial product quality, and updating related paperwork. The position requires the ability to stand and operate machinery for the duration of the shift, lift objects, demonstrate safe work habits, maintain equipment and work area, and assist in other departments as needed. Safe work practices and specific personal protective equipment are mandatory.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of mig weld experience
  • Grinding experience
  • Material handling experience
  • Crane operations experience
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written)
  • Detail oriented
  • Ability to manage time with little to no supervision, self-motivated
  • Ability to read blueprints
  • Basic math skills
  • Basic understanding of metallurgy
  • Basic understanding of electricity
  • AS9100 Quality compliance, understanding, and commitment
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience or career technical training
  • Safety glasses with side shields
  • Steel toed/metatarsal safety shoes
  • Gloves
  • Earplugs
  • Welding hood, jacket, face shield, and/or gloves
  • Fire Retardant (FR) clothing
  • N-95 mask or respirator
  • Seat belts required on all forklifts

Responsibilities

  • Read and understand blueprints and AWS welding symbols
  • Join thin metals of varying compositions by operating specialized hand and power tools
  • Operate tools such as arc welders, grinders, and buffing machines
  • Responsible for selecting and installing torch tips, filler rods, and flux according to the thickness of metal materials
  • Visually inspect welds to ensure conformance to specification requirements
  • Obtain and maintain company required weld certifications
  • Operate assigned machinery during welding downtime
  • Plan, understand, and interpret drawings, specifications, material and operating instructions before and while running operations and equipment
  • Produce and inspect parts against drawings specifications within time allotted; ensuring product meets specified quality standards
  • Use precision measuring instruments including micrometers, calipers, and fixtures/gauges to check work to drawings
  • Verify initial product quality checks and complete all processing operations
  • Update related paperwork (work orders and in-process inspection sheets) upon completion of tasks
  • Ability to stand and operate machinery throughout the duration of shift, except for scheduled breaks
  • Ability to lift required objects with or without assistance, turn, load/unload required objects
  • Demonstrate safe work habits
  • Maintain equipment and work area in a clean and orderly manner
  • Maintain current, overall, and job specific trainings and requirements
  • Assist in other departments as needed
