About The Position

Make repairs to equipment, make judgment calls in order to keep the road equipment functioning, be able to assess the jobs and repair in a timely manner. This role performs major and minor repairs of gasoline and diesel engines. The incumbent must be able to analyze the situation and make decisions as to needed repairs or replacement, thus saving taxpayer dollars. This position also provides leadership and direction in the development of short and long range plans. The role performs a variety of administrative, supervisory, semi-skilled, and skilled work in maintaining the vehicles and mechanical equipment of the department. The position works under the Administrative supervision of the Fleet Manager Superintendent. Using excellent customer service skills, the incumbent establishes and maintains effective working relationships with other employees, officials, and all members of the general public. The role requires the use of personal tools to accomplish necessary repairs. The incumbent determines work procedures, prepares work schedules, and expedites work flow; studies and standardizes procedures to improve efficiency and effectiveness of assigned work and Administrative operation.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Eight-to-ten years of experience in diesel/gasoline mechanics.
  • Must be able to work well with the operators, supervisors, and staff from other Departments who use County vehicles.
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, bend, use hands to handle or feel objects/controls, reach with hands and arms, and talk, see, and hear.
  • Must regularly lift 40 pounds and occasionally lift items weighing 75 pounds or more.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, peripheral, depth perception and the ability to see colors.
