About The Position

Austin Industrial is hiring a Welder Master to join metal parts, such as pipe or metal plates, according to layouts, blueprints, work orders, welding procedures, or oral instructions using heat or electric arc-welding equipment. The role includes welding and tack welding, preparing and shaping metal, checking work against specifications, and dismantling metal assemblies. The position may also involve climbing ladders or working on scaffolds and coordinating with crane operators to move large work pieces. Other duties may be assigned. Applicants must be legally authorized to work for any employer in the United States. Austin Industrial cannot sponsor or assume sponsorship of an employment visa for this position. No overnight travel is expected, though occasional local day travel may be necessary. This is a full-time position. First-shift employees work nine-hour shifts, five days a week, Monday through Friday, from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The role is physically intensive and involves lifting, climbing, standing and walking for extended periods, and potentially working in confined or wet spaces. Employees may be exposed to blinking or yellow lights, audible alarms, and materials containing hazardous chemicals. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. The posting gives conflicting education information: it states that there is no minimum education requirement, and separately lists a high school diploma or GED as required, with an associate degree or vocational training in water treatment, mechanical systems, or industrial maintenance preferred. It also includes qualifications and technical-proficiency requirements referring to water treatment, industrial maintenance, UPW or wastewater operations, semiconductor or cleanroom environments, Microsoft Office, CMMS software, and Confluence; these appear alongside the welding requirements in the supplied posting.

Requirements

  • Pass a weld test.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • TWIC Card.

  • Able to perform the role’s physical demands, including lifting, climbing, prolonged standing or walking, and working in confined or wet spaces.
  • The posting separately lists a high school diploma or GED as required, while another section states there are no minimum education requirements.
  • The posting also lists mechanical or industrial maintenance experience in UPW or industrial wastewater treatment operations, familiarity with handling and replacing filtration membranes, resins, and biological components, proficiency with Microsoft Office, and familiarity with enterprise CMMS software and Confluence.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree or vocational training in water treatment, mechanical systems, or industrial maintenance.

Responsibilities

  • Use spot-welding guns or hand, electric, or gas welding equipment to weld or tack-weld pieces together.

  • Preheat work pieces in preparation for welding or curving.
  • Fill holes, correct mistakes, and shape metal work pieces by thinning, curving, or making bulges.
  • Check work pieces for weakness and measure them with a straightedge or template to verify specifications.
  • Climb ladders or work on scaffolds to take apart structures.
  • Signal crane operators to lift large work pieces.
  • Use thermal-cutting equipment, such as flame-cutting torches or plasma-arc equipment, to dismantle metal assemblies or cut scrap metal.
  • Use hoists, cranes, wire and banding machines, or hand tools to position and secure work pieces.
  • Choose weld locations based on the metal type, thickness, area, and expected temperature.
  • Apply flame or electrodes across work pieces to straighten, curve, dissolve, or develop metal.
  • Join pieces, cover taut points, and add metal to develop parts.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
