About The Position

Austin Industrial is hiring a Combination Welder to join metal parts—including pipes and metal plates—according to layouts, blueprints, work orders, welding procedures, or oral instructions, using heat or electric arc-welding equipment. The role involves welding and tack welding, preparing and shaping metal, checking work against specifications, and handling metal assemblies and work pieces. Other duties may be assigned.

Requirements

  • Four years of journeyman-level experience.
  • Pass a weld test.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • TWIC Card.
  • Must be legally authorized to work for any employer in the United States; Austin Industrial cannot sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment visa.

Responsibilities

  • Use spot-welding guns and hand, electric, or gas-welding equipment to weld or tack-weld pieces together.
  • Connect welding torches to oxygen and fuel-gas tanks and adjust valves to produce the required flame.
  • Preheat work pieces in preparation for welding or curving.
  • Fill holes or correct mistakes in lead pieces, and thin, curve, or shape metal work pieces.
  • Check work pieces for weaknesses and measure them with a straightedge or template to confirm they meet specifications.
  • Climb ladders or work on scaffolds to take apart structures.
  • Signal crane operators to lift large work pieces.
  • Use thermal-cutting equipment, such as flame-cutting torches or plasma-arc equipment, to dismantle metal assemblies or cut scrap metal.
  • Use hoists, cranes, wire and banding machines, or hand tools to place and protect work pieces.
  • Select weld locations based on the metal's type, thickness, area, and expected temperature.
  • Guide the flame or electrodes over work pieces to straighten, curve, dissolve, or develop metal.
  • Join pieces, cover taut points, and add metal to develop parts.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
