About The Position

As a premier fuel and hydraulic tank producer, The IFH Group, Inc. is a destination employer for students with a strong desire to learn and strengthen their welding technique beyond the classroom. This temporary Welder position is 100% on-site in Rock Falls, Illinois, and requires previous welding experience (academic or work setting) and an eager attitude with a willingness to learn through coaching, mentorship, and training. Welder Intern for the fabrication team works safely while learning and performing quality MIG and TIG weldments with standard fabrication techniques and according to appropriate bead size and other specifications while also prioritizing safety and quality excellence. This role takes and uses accurate measurements, reads and interprets blueprints, diagrams, and schematics.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required.
  • 18 years or older required.
  • Previous work or academic experience with machine/metal fabrication, MIG welding, and/or TIG welding required.
  • Current enrollment in accredited academic program with GPA 2.5 or higher.
  • Strong work ethic with integrity while prioritizing safety and quality excellence.
  • Knowledge, skill, and ability to learn and perform MIG and TIG welding.
  • Knowledge, skill, and ability to learn and perform quality weldments according to bead size and other specifications.
  • Knowledge and ability to demonstrate basic reading, math, and writing skills.
  • Knowledge and ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, and schematics.
  • Knowledge, ability, and skill to take and use accurate measurements.
  • Knowledge, skill, and ability to operate and use hand and power tools, and welding and brazing equipment, torches, and shields.
  • Ability, knowledge, and skill to demonstrate professionalism and use respectful communication with employees at all levels within the organization.
  • Ability and willingness to comply with all company policies, processes, and procedures including, but not limited to safety and code of conduct.
  • Knowledge and ability to apply basic computer skills.
  • Ability and skill to fluently speak, read, write, and understand English.

Responsibilities

  • Works safely while learning and performing quality MIG and TIG weldments with standard fabrication techniques and according to appropriate bead size and other specifications.
  • Prioritizes safety and quality excellence.
  • Takes and uses accurate measurements.
  • Reads and interprets blueprints, diagrams, and schematics.
  • Uses and operates welding gun, hand and power tools, welding and brazing equipment, torches, and shields.
  • Detects, perceives, identifies, observes, inspects, and assesses welding processes.
  • Expresses and exchanges information in-person.
  • Moves and positions objects up to 50 lbs.
  • Complies with all company policies, processes, and procedures including, but not limited to safety and code of conduct.
  • Applies basic computer skills.
