About The Position

Konecranes is seeking a skilled Welder III to perform FCAW welding as the primary process, with support for MIG and SAW processes. The role involves welding heavy and light structural steel assemblies, interpreting technical drawings and procedures, and controlling weld distortion. The Welder III will also be responsible for visual inspection of welds, operating welding equipment, performing gouging and grinding, and maintaining a safe and clean work environment. This position plays a key role in ensuring the quality and integrity of fabricated steel structures.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to consistently achieve high first-pass weld acceptance rates.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, weld symbols, and welding procedures.
  • Advanced FCAW welding capability.
  • Working knowledge of MIG and SAW welding processes.
  • Knowledge of weld distortion control, heat input management, and structural welding practices.
  • Ability to identify welding defects and perform acceptable repairs.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum 6 years of welding experience in a fabrication environment.
  • Ability to pass required AWS and CWB welding qualification tests.
  • Ability to pass 3G and 4G welding qualification tests.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Frequent standing, bending, kneeling, climbing, and overhead work.
  • Ability to work overtime as required.
  • Visual acuity to read drawings and inspect completed work.
  • Ability to safely operate overhead cranes and forklifts.

Nice To Haves

  • Formal welding training preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform FCAW welding as the primary process and support MIG and SAW processes as required.
  • Produce quality welds that meet drawing, procedure, and inspection requirements on the first pass with minimal repair or rework.
  • Weld heavy and light structural steel assemblies in accordance with drawings, weld procedures, and quality requirements.
  • Interpret weld symbols, fabrication drawings, specifications, and welding procedures.
  • Perform groove welds, fillet welds, complete joint penetration welds, and structural weld repairs.
  • Control weld distortion using proper sequencing, heat input management, fixturing, and welding techniques.
  • Verify preheat and interpass temperatures when required.
  • Perform visual inspection of completed welds and prepare work for NDT inspection.
  • Operate welding equipment and adjust parameters to achieve acceptable weld quality.
  • Perform gouging, grinding, weld cleanup, and repair activities as necessary.
  • Operate overhead cranes and material handling equipment safely.
  • Assist with troubleshooting weld quality issues and implementing corrective actions.
  • Support training and development of less experienced welders.
  • Maintain welding equipment and perform routine maintenance inspections.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
  • Follow all Konecranes safety directives and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
