About The Position

This position operates welding equipment and performs moderate to complex fabrication tasks for prototype and production parts. Adheres to and contributes to the development of established standard operating procedures. This position is responsible for the set-up, operation, and training of all wire feed (MIG) and Heliarc (TIG) machinery, both manual and automated.

Requirements

  • Must be able to read, write, and communicate in English with a demonstrated ability to follow and/or give written and oral instructions.
  • Must possess basic to moderate computer skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform math calculations with an understanding of decimal/fraction equivalence.
  • Able to read job-related blueprints and develop work instructions.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively inspect assigned work and the work of others using precision measuring equipment.
  • Completed proper material handling testing requirements.
  • Must be able to identify all tools and material types.
  • Must be able to troubleshoot problems when necessary to achieve permanent resolution.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage time and resources effectively.
  • May train Welder I.
  • Generally requires at least 2-3 years of relevant welding experience with exposure to wire feed (MIG) and Heliarc (TIG) welding.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise maneuver up to 35 pounds with or without assistance on a routine basis.
  • Must have manual hand dexterity to grasp, operate tools and equipment repetitively.
  • Able to walk, stand, sit, bend, reach, and occasionally kneel, climb steps, and twist throughout an entire shift.
  • Some areas may be exposed to chemicals, noise, vibration and/or dust, and require the use of appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE); such as, but not limited to safety glasses, hearing protection, foot protection, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Sets up, operates, and troubleshoots all welding equipment while using required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Programs and troubleshoots automated welding equipment.
  • Trains less experienced welders.
  • Works closely with Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering on projects that require prototype welding and makes recommendations on product design.
  • Fabricates items used in the facility; provides technical support for Tooling to develop fixtures.
  • Routinely produces and inspects production parts to a blueprint, operational note, and/or standard work instruction using the proper inspection methods and tool to achieve and maintain quality standards.
  • Completes all documentation required for the position to comply with policies and procedures.
  • Promotes established safety, quality, and productivity standards.
  • Performs routine total preventative maintenance including lubrication and cleaning on assigned equipment.
  • Safely and efficiently routes parts using material handling equipment.
  • Works within a multi-shift organization to ensure a neat and organized workstation, effective communication, and a collaborative team environment.
  • Actively engages or potentially leads department continuous improvement efforts and lean manufacturing initiatives.
