About The Position

The Welder I fabricates, assembles, and repairs metal structures and products using welding techniques and equipment. The role includes setting up parts with hand tools, clamps, jigs, and fixtures; interpreting blueprints, technical drawings, and welding symbols; and welding, cutting, grinding, and finishing metal to meet specifications and safety standards. The position also involves machine operation, quality control, required documentation, and preparation work.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED, three to six months of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
At least six months of hands-on experience in welding and fabrication applications.
Proficiency in welding safety, weld filler selection, welding process parameters, and fixturing.
Strong cognitive and communication skills, with attention to detail.
Ability to lead projects to completion with minimal oversight and demonstrate problem-solving ability.
Ability to work independently and unsupervised while prioritizing tasks.

Nice To Haves

Experience welding dissimilar metals.
Familiarity with metallurgy, weld joint analysis, and backing gas applications.

Responsibilities

Plan work-order procedures and gather the tools and materials required by job instructions and specifications.
Repair and fabricate items and equipment using cutting, burning, and welding techniques and equipment.
Monitor welding, burning, and fitting to prevent overheating, warping, distortion, expansion, or shrinkage.
Prepare, assemble, and tack-weld parts and surfaces.
Maintain, organize, and clean equipment and the work area.
Notify the Team Leader about faulty equipment or defective materials.
Perform related duties as assigned, including machine operation.
Perform quality control and complete required documentation.
Perform preparation work and grinding.
