About The Position

Savannah Tank & Equipment Corp. is a dedicated ASME code shop with over 30 years of experience building ASME Section VIII pressure vessels, API 650 storage tanks, and modular process equipment. We serve leading companies in demanding industries such as chemical processing, water treatment, energy, food and beverage, and pharmaceuticals. Due to recent growth, we are looking to add 4 to 6 skilled welder/fitters to our shop floor. This position offers relocation assistance for moves over 250 miles, high-demand overtime opportunities at 1.5x the base rate, and the chance to perform true code work with stable, long-term backlogs. The pay range is $22.00 – $35.00 per hour, with overtime paid at 1.5x the base rate after 40 hours weekly. Experienced builders and welders can expect $28.00 – $35.00 per hour, while development-level welders will earn $22.00 – $27.00 per hour. You will be welding ASME Section VIII pressure vessels, API 650 storage tanks, and modular skids, primarily using carbon and stainless steel. Alloy work is available for those with demonstrated experience. We utilize multiple welding processes including MIG (GMAW), TIG (GTAW), Sub-Arc (SAW), and Flux Core (FCAW), with TIG proficiency being critical for pressure vessel work. Out-of-position welding is also a requirement.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of welding and fabrication experience
  • Solid FluxCore/MIG and TIG skills in carbon and stainless steel
  • Ability to read blueprints, mechanical drawings, and weld symbols
  • Strong fit-up skills (layout, bevel prep, tacking)
  • Solid math fundamentals (fractions, decimals, angles)
  • Ability to handle physical work, including lifting up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to pass our hands-on weld test (tested strictly on our WPS)
  • Passing a pre-employment drug test

Nice To Haves

  • AWS D1.1, ASME Section IX, or API 1104 certifications
  • Prior pressure vessel or code-stamped tank manufacturing work
  • Advanced TIG and Flux Core experience
  • Alloy welding experience (duplex, Monel, Inconel, Alloy 20)

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret blueprints, mechanical drawings, and welding symbols.
  • Perform precision layout, bevel prep, fit-up, and tacking to exact specifications before executing the final weld-out, taking full ownership of the joint.
  • Operate fabrication tools including grinders, oxy-acetylene torches, plasma cutters, and precision layout instruments (calipers, micrometers, angle finders, squares).
  • Strictly adhere to the Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and maintain inspection-ready quality on every weld.
