About The Position

Assist Fitters/Welder with Lays out, installs, maintain, and repairs all types of piping systems for maintenance, tank and new construction.

Requirements

  • Minimum of four (4) years or more in refinery maintenance/turnaround/or construction experience.
  • A general knowledge of basic hand tools.
  • Must be able to pass the Pipefitter Helper Skills Test at or above 70% or complete the NCCER certification for your craft.
  • Complete Matrix Service Safety training, Process Safety Management training and Client / Site specific training.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain an active status within the approved drug testing program.
  • Must be able to pass a Background check.
  • Employee will be required to adhere to large amounts of standing, walking, bending, squatting and lifting.
  • Will talk and hear to communicate.
  • Must have good dexterity with hands and fingers to perform the precision adjustments of machinery parts and controls.
  • Will use arms and hands to signal, grab, hold, turn, push, pull objects, materials, controls and tools.
  • May be required to lift, carry and move up to 50lbs.
  • Will occasionally work at heights, climb ladders and stairways and work off of platforms. Will work at heights up to 300' utilizing proper fall protection.
  • Will use vision abilities to focus, see short and long distances, colors, depth perception and peripheral vision.
  • Must be capable of working outside in the elements including but not limited to the heat, cold, rain, snow and wind; and must be able to work for long period of times up to 12 hours a day.
  • Will be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to hard hat, safety glasses/goggles, ear plugs/muffs, masks/respirators, safety vests, gloves and steel-toe boots.

  • Receives and understands instructions and prints regarding work assignment.
  • Interprets drawings and sketches. Plans detail of working procedure and selects materials in accordance with engineering standards.
  • Lays out work; calculates dimensions; makes sketches of piping systems when needed.
  • Sets up and operates bending, threading and cutoff equipment and uses hand tools or torch to shape, prepare and fabricate pipe for work to be done.
  • Tests, inspects, dismantles, repairs, replaces or installs any type of high- or low-pressure piping, tubing, fittings, fixtures and parts for the installation, maintenance and repair of pipelines for air, water, steam, oils, gases, acid, caustics, etc.
  • Assembles and tests a variety of piping components.
  • Sets up for pipe for welded or special type joints.
  • Fastens hangers and supports.
  • Handles or makes provision for the handling of materials, equipment and tools to and from job site in shop or field in connection with work.
  • Makes report of work performed.
  • Identify safety hazards you or other employees may be subject to and take all necessary corrective action to eliminate or minimize hazards.
  • Perform all other job-related duties as requested by supervision.
