About The Position

Manthey Hospitality is seeking a skilled Welder / Fitter / Fabricator experienced in steel and aluminum welding to support vessel construction, repair, and maintenance. This role is primarily land/dock-based at our Fleet Maintenance Center, with work performed on vessels, barges, gangways, and related marine structures. Candidates must successfully pass a welding test and demonstrate strong workmanship, safety awareness, and attention to detail.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a welder; must pass a welding test.
  • Experience welding steel and aluminum.
  • Proficiency with TIG, MMA, or similar welding procedures.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints.
  • Strong working knowledge of safety standards and PPE requirements.
  • Excellent attention to detail with a clean, organized work style.
  • Proficient in English (written and verbal).
  • Reliable transportation.
  • TWIC Card (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) required or ability to obtain and maintain.
  • Monday–Friday (Primary Schedule), weekends and holidays for emergency repairs and projects.
  • Welding experience: 1 year required

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of a relevant welding apprenticeship program.
  • Professional welding certification (e.g., AWS certification).
  • Prior marine or shipyard welding experience.
  • Welding certification: preferred

Responsibilities

  • Perform all work with safety as the top priority, utilizing required PPE and safety equipment including eye, ear, respiratory protection, harnesses, scaffolding, and ladders.
  • Select appropriate welding equipment, materials, and settings based on job requirements.
  • Cut, fit, and prepare materials according to specifications and measurements.
  • Operate hand and power tools such as saws, grinders, sanders, squares, and calipers.
  • Align, clamp, and weld components in various positions (vertical, horizontal, overhead).
  • Weld using manual or semi-automatic methods (e.g., TIG, MMA).
  • Repair structures and equipment by welding, filling gaps, and reinforcing components.
  • Inspect and test welded surfaces and structures to ensure quality and integrity.
  • Maintain tools and equipment in safe, operable condition.
  • Assist with general ship repair and marine maintenance tasks.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
