About The Position

We are seeking a high-caliber Welder & Fabricator to join our precision manufacturing team in Oak Ridge. We are a specialized manufacturer producing critical, custom components for the aerospace and defense industries. If you want to see your work on satellites, fighter jets, rockets, and more, this is the shop for you. Unlike high-volume production shops, we focus on high-precision, custom metal fixtures, weldments, and jigs. This is a role for a true craftsman who thrives on troubleshooting and figuring out complex fabrications from beginning to end. We need someone with immense mechanical aptitude who is ready to lay down welds that consistently pass rigorous X-Ray and bend tests. This is a secure, full-time role within a rapidly growing company that deeply values its tradesmen. You will enjoy a highly predictable first-shift schedule, a pristine and well-equipped work environment, and a steady, reliable pipeline of work so you never have to worry about downtime.

Requirements

  • 5-10 years of professional experience with a heavy emphasis on custom metal fabrication and precision welding.
  • High proficiency in both MIG (GMAW) and TIG (GTAW) welding across various materials, notably steel and aluminum.
  • Strong ability to read, interpret, and build directly from complex mechanical blueprints and drawings.
  • Deep expertise in measurement and validation, with a sharp attention to detail for close-tolerance work.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex jigs, fixtures, and weldments independently.

Nice To Haves

  • Basic ability to operate manual equipment (mills, lathes) to support fabrication and secondary operations is a great bonus.
  • Prior qualification to AWS and ASME codes, or proven history of passing rigorous non-destructive testing (NDT) like X-Ray and bend tests.
  • Previous experience in a high-spec Aerospace or Defense manufacturing environment familiar with ISO 9001:2015, AS9100D, and Nadcap standards.
  • High school diploma (GED), trade school certificate, or Associate's degree in Manufacturing Technology.

Responsibilities

  • Fabricate custom metal fixtures, weldments, and jigs from layout through shaping, fitting, tacking, and final finishing.
  • Weld complex steel and aluminum assemblies to exact specifications using both GMAW (MIG) and GTAW (TIG) processes.
  • Read and accurately interpret complex mechanical drawings and engineering specifications to ensure flawless fabrication.
  • Inspect and validate finished products using precision measurement tools, ensuring strict compliance with high-tolerance aerospace standards.
  • Act as a technical problem-solver on the floor, collaborating with engineering to optimize fabrication processes and figure out complex builds.
  • Produce high-specification welds capable of passing stringent X-Ray and bend tests, and qualify welder performance in accordance with AWS and ASME codes.
  • Perform routine maintenance on welding and fabricating equipment to ensure optimal performance and safety.
