About The Position

This application is for a Civil Service Examination (CS2026-120) for the opportunity to be placed on an Eligible List for a future opening. An experience evaluation will be conducted based on the applicant's academic training and experience pertinent to the classification. The role involves cutting steel plates and pipe, operating welding and fabrication equipment, and working with auto and truck frames and associated parts. The technician will read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings to fabricate metal and aluminum parts, select appropriate materials and tools, and operate various metal fabrication equipment.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Two years of full-time paid welding experience is required.
• Must have layout and blueprint reading experience.
• Must have fabricating experience.
• Experience in burning, Arc welding, MIG and TIG welding is required.
• Must be able to push and lift to approximately 80 pounds.
• Must provide their own hand tools necessary for performing job duties.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with CNC cutting machine preferred.
• Automotive environment background is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Cuts steel plates and pipe, operates welder and related equipment.
• Heats, straightens and fabricates auto and truck frames, bodies and associated parts.
• Performs arc, MIG, TIG, Arc and oxyacetylene welding.
• Reads and interprets blueprints and technical drawings to determine how to fabricate metal and aluminum parts.
• Selects appropriate materials and tools for specific fabrication tasks.
• Operates metal fabrication equipment including cutting machines, welding machines and other tools.
• Operates band saws, drills, hydraulic presses, shear machines as well as bending and rolling machines, threads pipe and services welding equipment.
