About The Position

Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) is seeking a skilled Welder Fabricator to join our Pullman WA based machine shop team. Experience level will determine job title. In this position, you will be responsible for programming, setting up, and operating CNC and manually operated fabrication equipment to produce and then inspect a wide variety of sheet metal and other custom components. Welding is an essential part of this role, so we are specifically looking for an experienced welder who is proficient with MIG and TIG welding processes and preferably has a solid understanding of welding theory and a basic understanding of welding metallurgy and nondestructive testing processes. Experience with aluminum, stainless steel, carbon steel, and titanium is preferred. In addition to a technical skill set, we are looking for someone who models SEL values as outlined in our Principles of Operation. The ideal candidate will be an excellent problem solver, self-driven to improve in their craft, and willing to learn and teach a broad range of welding and fabrication skills and technologies. The schedule for this position is Monday through Friday 3:00PM to 11:30PM.

Requirements

  • Trade school degree or 6 years of shop experience
  • Advance experience in the field required
  • Proficient with applicable computer software as relevant
  • Service attitude, quality and OTP for internal customer
  • Strong math skills
  • Ability to accurately measure parts
  • Strong writing, documentation, and speaking skills
  • Ability to teach and learn new skills, open to take on new responsibilities, and train others
  • Ability to motivate others to work cooperatively in a team environment
  • Background check results satisfactory to SEL
  • Negative drug test result(s)

Responsibilities

  • Using manual and CNC fabrication equipment to produce parts of moderate complexity under limited supervision.
  • Performing preventive maintenance on shop equipment.
  • Creating basic to complex CNC programs with a CAD/CAM system.
  • Providing design feedback and training to engineering and other staff on basic to moderate design projects.
  • Adhering to all shop safety procedures.
  • Learn and apply SEL Values, Principles of Operations, and World Class Manufacturing Principles.
  • Understand. Create. Simplify.
  • Other duties as assigned.
