About The Position

The Weld Mapper is responsible for making a permanent record of the size, location, and type of casting welds, and maintaining map files for use by PCC and customers. This role involves measuring and identifying welds, completing weld maps, and preparing required paperwork. The position also includes miscellaneous department support and a strong emphasis on safety.

Requirements

  • Ability to read and interpret technical instructions.
  • Ability to write.
  • Ability to perform basic math calculations.
  • Ability to attend to details and work independently.
  • Ability to lift and/or maneuver objects weighing thirty to fifty pounds and occasionally up to eighty pounds.
  • Ability to work in difficult working conditions which may include exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, temperature extremes and other elements for extended periods of time.

Nice To Haves

  • Blueprint reading experience or training desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Measure and identify welds and complete weld maps by reading Tech Cards, measuring casting welds, marking weld sizes, locations, volume, spacing, and grades on weld maps, and identifying/recording types of alloys and welding processes used.
  • Prepare all required paperwork on castings welds and maintain files, including completing Non-Conformance Material Deviation (NCMD) forms, maintaining tech cards files, completing routers, greenwelds, and welding audits, and maintaining active and blank map files.
  • Assist the operations of the salvage department by painting weld wire, stocking the weld wire cabinet, and potentially washing or degreasing parts.
  • Take responsibility for and demonstrate safe work practices by adhering to plant and department safety rules, safely operating all equipment and tools, and identifying and reporting safety problems.
  • Perform other tasks as directed.
