About The Position

The Rework Grinder is responsible for removing surface and subsurface defects from castings to meet customer specifications. This role involves meticulous grinding and blending of defects and welds to precise blueprint tolerances. The position also includes inspection duties to ensure compliance with customer standards and requires accurate record-keeping. Additionally, the Rework Grinder will provide work direction and training to junior grinders and must adhere to all safety protocols, including potential use of respiratory protection and handling of hazardous waste.

Requirements

  • Grinding skills and working knowledge of grinding tools, equipment, and materials.
  • Basic ability to follow instructions, read, write, and perform arithmetic calculations.
  • Ability to use and read dimensional tools including calipers, gauges, and micrometers.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and follow specifications on Tech Cards and Process Control Procedures.
  • Ability to lift and/or maneuver objects weighing thirty to fifty pounds and occasionally up to eighty pounds.
  • Ability to work in difficult working conditions which may include exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, temperature extremes, awkward physical positions, and other elements for extended periods of time.
  • Individuals may have contact with or be required to handle hazardous waste.

Nice To Haves

  • Rework Analyst, Visual Dimensional and Penetrant Inspection Courses preferred.
  • May be required to complete hazardous waste management training.

Responsibilities

  • Review inspection paperwork, sketches, and blueprints to determine grinding requirements.
  • Remove surface and blind cavity defects from castings using rotary files, burrs, abrasives, or belts.
  • Blend and rework repaired areas to specified tolerances, potentially using a hand-held sandblaster.
  • Verify dimensional compliance using micrometers, calipers, ultrasonic testing, and other dimensional inspection devices.
  • Perform fluorescent penetrant inspection tests on parts to verify defect removal.
  • Complete logs and records.
  • Provide work direction and training to junior-level grinders.
  • Adhere to plant and department safety rules.
  • Safely operate all equipment and tools.
  • Identify and report safety problems.
  • May be required to handle hazardous waste.
  • Perform other tasks as directed.
