About The Position

The Welcome Center Screener is responsible for assisting with the screening/identification of students, at the Welcome Center and at schools, as well as assisting with the administration of other assessments administered by the Welcome Center. This role involves administering state-approved EL eligibility assessments, maintaining confidential student records, communicating assessment results, and ensuring the proper handling of assessment materials and supplies. The position also requires staying updated on Welcome Center and EL Department policies and completing required trainings.

Requirements

• Associate’s degree or two years of post-secondary education
• Experience administering and/or scoring language proficiency assessments
• Experience working with English Learners in a K-12 school setting
• Demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills in English
• Demonstrate strong organizational skills
• Cultural competence and ability to build trust with diverse populations
• Demonstrate knowledge of modern office practices and procedures
• Must be trustworthy and dependable
• Attention to detail and accuracy in assessment administration and reporting

Responsibilities

• Administers the VA state-approved EL eligibility assessment, to include online assessments, as well as other assessments administered by the Welcome Center.
• Maintains accurate, confidential student records and enters assessment data into required databases and reporting systems.
• Communicates assessment results and recommendations clearly.
• Ensures testing regularities of assessment materials, equipment, and supplies to include: accounting for needed materials when conducting assessments, properly storing materials upon completion of assessments, and communicating needed supplies.
• Assists with maintaining Welcome Center Screening room supplies and resources.
• Remains abreast of Welcome Center and EL Department policies and practices, complete annual WIDA Screener trainings and attend Welcome Center Screener CLTs.
