About The Position

The City of Berkeley invites applications for the position of Weighmaster in the Zero Waste Division of the Public Works Department. This role operates from the scale house at the solid waste transfer station, where the Weighmaster is responsible for assessing incoming loads and providing direction to customers. Key duties include weighing vehicles, estimating volumes and assessing contents of small loads, collecting fees, providing customer information and direction, and utilizing personal computers for data management, record keeping, and reporting.

Requirements

• Equivalent to completion of high school.
• Three (3) years of solid waste collection and disposal experience, OR three (3) years of general office or accounting support work experience.
• Must be bondable.
• Able to work early morning, evening, holiday and weekend shifts in a dusty, windy environment without restrictions.
• Must successfully complete four (4) weeks of full-time equivalent on-the-job training within a six (6) month probationary period.
• Must pass a background check including employment history, educational credentials, credit check, criminal history check, and Live Scan fingerprinting.

Nice To Haves

• Prior experience in refuse collection.
• Prior experience in handling of hazardous materials.
• Successful completion of classes in Customer Service Dispute/Conflict Resolution.

Responsibilities

• Weigh vehicles entering and leaving the transfer station.

• Use personal computers for data collection, computation, reconciliation, record keeping and reporting.
