About The Position
The Daily Beast is seeking a Weekend News Editor to help our dynamic newsroom. The ideal candidate will have experience editing breaking news, a sharp editorial eye, and the ability to drive compelling and impactful news coverage from Wednesday through Sunday. The role’s hours are 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. EST Wednesday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
Requirements
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in journalism, with at least 2 years in an editing role.
- Exceptional writing, editing, and communication skills.
- Strong news judgment and the ability to make quick editorial decisions.
- Deep understanding of digital media and audience engagement strategies.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines with a small team.
Responsibilities
- Oversee news coverage across these shifts, ensuring timely, accurate and engaging reporting.
- Assign and edit stories, providing guidance to reporters to produce high-quality content.
- Monitor news trends and stay ahead of the competition.
- Curate The Daily Beast’s homepage and update social feeds with fresh content.
- Maintain high journalistic standards and uphold The Daily Beast's editorial voice.
